CONTACT / FAQ

Any questions, comments, and/or concerns that can be posed via email can be sent to:

beachimpediment[at]gmail[dot]com

Please send all snail mail orders*, demos, prison letters, drawings, hardcore beluga shockers, old flyers and zines to:

BEACH IMPEDIMENT RECORDS
P.O. BOX 26348
RICHMOND, VA 23260
USA

*In the event you are ordering records via snail mail, please email me first so I can set aside the records you want to ensure that you get them and so that I can give you an accurate total with shipping.

As noted above, demo submissions are welcome! Mailing them to the label's P.O. Box is preferred but feel free to email if that is not an option. Please note that in addition to a release schedule that is more than likely already at capacity due to current insane turn around times, I have other things going on in my day to day as well and I'll do my best to get back to you when/if I can.

On top of that, please keep in mind that B.I.R. is a one person operation. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding!

Here are some frequently asked questions (or FAQ) that I wanted to throw up here and save ya some time since these seem to land in my inbox regularly for whatever reason:

Q: Do you accept demo submissions?

A: Sure! Physical copies via snail mail are preferred. You can find that mailing address above. At most times my release schedule is pretty full as this is far from a career for me but at the very least I'm always keen on hearing new stuff. Please don't email, DM, etc and expect a response.

Q: Do you wanna pay me to utilize my social media account and impersonal emails to "do PR" for your releases?

A: No. I respect a good scam/hustle, though.

Q: Will you buy wholesale copies of my label/band's new release?

A: Probably not. Running a distro got tiresome for me some years ago and there are plenty of others here in the states that do it better and more efficiently, see: Sorry State, Feel It, Iron Lung, etc. I'd rather commit what time I have for this to my releases. I'll trade on occasion if I get a wild hair, but ehhh...

Q: Where's my order?

A: Tracking will be sent as soon as your order ships. If you haven't received tracking that means it has not shipped. I normally get to the post office two days a week due to my work and life schedule. This label is not my career nor is my office an Amazon Fulfillment Center. Patience is appreciated especially when there's been a new release as that significantly adds to the volume of orders. Sometimes it might even take up to a few weeks to get through all of that. If you absolutely cannot handle this possibility then I suggest not ordering from me. Now, if ya wanna order Beach Impediment releases from folks that are on top of it and shipping records seemingly non stop, I'd suggest hitting up Sorry State, Feel It, Grave Mistake or loads of other operations that carry said releases and hit the post office with a much greater frequency than B.I.R.

Q: Where's my download card?

A: I don't do those anymore. All releases are available via the Beach Impediment Records Bandcamp page. You can buy the physical version of any release still in print and get a download along with your record. Most releases that are out of print are available for free download, just type in the number "0" when it asks that ya wanna pay. With that said, if you really wanna pay then please consider downloading directly from the bands via their Bandcamp sites so they get every bit of those space bucks. I link them from my Bandcamp page when possible.

Q: Why don't you do pre-orders more often?

A: Quite frankly, I do not like many aspects of the pre-order. I do not like taking your money for a product that doesn't exist yet. Adding in the fact that most pressing plants are an absolute unpredictable mess at the moment makes this even more annoying to me. I'd rather just put the records up for sale when they're in hand as I've done dozens and dozens and dozens of times since the label came into existence. However, some labels I split releases with and some bands absolutely insist on this practice. It rarely goes smoothly but to each their own. You might see em here and there but I normally have no intention of doing them.

Q: Wanna do an interview for [insert corny website covering alternative music]?

A: No. I assure you there's truly nothing remotely profound or interesting about a grown man who is essentially a secretary to the bands he presses vinyl records for. You will not get any increased visitors to your website or any significant bump in ad revenue as a result of anything I have to say. I am pretty boring.

Q: Are you gonna repress [insert record pressed 9 years ago by a long defunct band that has multiple copies on Discogs for, like, $2]?

A: No. Used records exist via the secondary market. Embrace them!

Q: What's your zodiac sign?

A: Scorpio.

Q: Will you put out a record for my band? Here's our silly fucking press release we typed up with influences and studio credit and ex members and an awkward posed photo attached and favorite snacks and --

A: Did you know the free streaming service Pluto has a WHOLE CHANNEL dedicated to Rescue 911? Do you remember that show? Did you know there's a Rescue 911 pinball machine? It's wild, I found it down in NC actually. When your ball gets caught in that little magnetized rut thing that I'm blanking on the name of this fucking HELICOPTER comes to pick it up and bring it to safety for extra points. Which makes ya wonder, what are some of the other niche pinball machines out there based on late 80s/early 90s television programs or movies? Personally, I'm hoping for Harry and the Hendersons Pinball. Blue Velvet would rock, too.

Q: Why didn't you combine my Big Cartel and Bandcamp orders into one shipment?

A: How on earth would I have been notified of you, a grown human, feeling the need to order different records from different stores in the same timeframe for reasons completely beyond me? If such technology exists please let me know but when a new release drops, I am usually swamped with hundreds of orders and have no intention of perusing said orders in each store to see if the same person ordered records from both. Feel free to email and let me know if you feel the need to make multiple orders like this and I'll see what I can do, but your best best is to just order all the records you'd like from one store...???

Q: Where are the White Cross reissues?

A: Currently in what I will call "bizarre remixing decisions hell" for a little while longer buuuuut hopefully rolling soon? Maybe by the 2030's? Okay fine 2040's.

Q: Why is my order at my local post office processing center and it hasn't moved in 5 days?

A: No clue. Thankfully, I am not an employee of the USPS.

  1. In reference to the punk show with condor where is the vsc? Also, do you all plan on recording the show? I might not be able to make it but I’d love to play some of a live recording over the airwaves at wtju 91.1.

    Thank you
    Matt

    Well packaged and prompt. Thanks.
Re: The Noys, about whom "not much is known". The bass player in 1981 was a friend of mine from Open High, Beau Phillips.
At the time I met Johnny he was discovering the blues and was pretty obnoxious about it- as was his nature.
I also attended middle school with his sister who was a lovely person.
They lived in a little neighborhood off Hull St. in Richmond behind the original Salvage Barn.
Johnny made for an even more obnoxious Christian.
